Loreto is nowadays an undiscovered top holiday spot where you can practice a wide variety of activities from diving to fishing. Loreto provides relaxation and fun for everyone, simply a holiday paradise.
Located in front of the Sea of Cortés (Vermilion Sea), the surrounding area includes beaches like Nopolo, Juncalito, Ensenada Blanca, Agua Verde and San Bruno. These beaches are the perfect place to practice popular activities such as snorkeling, golf, kayaking, sailing and cultural activities. Loreto Islands extend for over 502 acres that include islands like Santa Catalina, Coronado, Danzante, Montserrat and El Carmen.
Loreto owns 7 buildings from the XVIII to XX century, which are considered historical monuments by the federal government. The most important of these is the Mission of Our Lady of Loreto, deeply linked to the foundation of the city by Jesuit priests in 1697 and capital of The Californias from 1697 to 1777. Our Lady of Loreto also marks the beginning of the Camino Real (Royal Way), a historical corridor that ends in Sonoma, California and continues the route of the ancient Spanish missions in High and Lower California.
Loreto is one of the few places where you can still find prehistoric art. In the Giganta Sierra, you can find cave paintings in canyons and rocky beddings. You can visit this important legacy close to Loreto, in the Painted Caves, just 9 miles to the west, and The Pinguiza, 37 miles to the north.
Loreto offers hotels, golf courses, real estate locations, restaurants and even a marina to its guests. With no doubt, it is a great holiday spot that attracts tourists mainly from United States, Canada and Baja California thanks to the daily flights from the US to the Loreto International Airport.
